Cannoli Siciliani

Cannoli Siciliani Recipe:

Ingredients

  • For shells: 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For filling: 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Candied orange peel, chopped
  • Pistachios, chopped for garnish
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

    Mix flour, sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a bowl

    Add egg and wine, mix until dough forms

  3. 3

    Knead dough until smooth, wrap and refrigerate 1 hour

    Roll dough very thin and cut into 4-inch circles

    Wrap dough circles around metal cannoli tubes

    Seal edges with beaten egg white

    Heat oil to 375°F and fry shells until golden brown

    Remove from tubes and let cool completely

    For filling, beat ricotta until smooth

    Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla

    Fold in chocolate chips and candied orange peel

    Pipe filling into cooled shells just before serving

    Dip ends in chopped pistachios
