Classic Italian dessert with espresso-soaked ladyfingers and mascarpone

Tiramisu Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups mascarpone cheese
  • 1 3/4 cups heavy cream
  • 2 packages ladyfinger cookies
  • 1 cup strong espresso, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

    Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a double boiler until thick and pale

    Remove from heat and whisk in mascarpone cheese until smooth

    In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream to stiff peaks

    Gently fold whipped cream into mascarpone mixture

    Combine cooled espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish

    Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture

    Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers in a 9x13 inch dish

    Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers

    Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers

    Top with remaining mascarpone mixture and smooth the surface

    Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight

    Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder

    Garnish with chocolate shavings if desired
